Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Sony Open

The second stop on the Hawaii swing takes place this week, but this time on the island of Oahu at Waialae Golf Club.  What is so interesting this week is that we have some guys who played last week and others who haven’t played competitive rounds in over a month.   We also have the fact that Kapalua is such a different style course than Waialae. It is one of my favorite events of the early part of the year.

Last week was certainly a good one for Team FGI as I heard from many of you who had success in GPPs, some in the five-figure range.  The biggest one I saw was jadermit who won the $150k Driver contest for a cool $30,000.  I had a winning week myself, but nowhere near what I could have won if the unthinkable did not happen with Morikawa choking and a couple of guys having miraculous back nines.  I was sitting in first place in the big $5 for much of Sunday and very much a heavy favorite to win a FGWC ticket in the $10 qualifier, only to watch them wither away alongside Morikawa’s hopes.  That is the way the cookie crumbles in DFS Golf, something I have grown very used to over 10+ years in the game.  It is never over until it reads -0- holes left (and then even then it is not for certain 😉).

Just like I would not make a blanket statement that my new system is horrible and does not work if we were not successful at all last week, I will not say that it is a 100% sure fire winner either.  We can not draw conclusions from one week.  DFS Golf is a grind and it is the long-term results that matter.  Certainly, I am happy with the results and feel a bit more confident in my new approach than I did before last week.

Let’s keep it going this week at Sony and throughout 2023!
