Jeff’s Hardcore Core- RSM Classic
The final full-field event, cut event on the PGA Tour is this week in Sea Island, Georgia with the RSM Classic. Although there is not a ton of action the next handful of week, it doesn’t mean that we will not be pumping out content. We will of course be releasing our three-part GPP article with all of the crucial data from winning GPP rosters throughout 2018. This has proven to be an invaluable tool for those who want to stay on top of the fast moving trends in the DFS golf industry. It is not the same game as even just a couple of years ago. You need to be armed with the information about what it takes to win. Also, I will be releasing my Crystal Ball Article: Report Card for 2018 and of course the much anticipated Crystal Ball Article: 2019 Edition over the next five weeks as well. Also, we have several great European events, so don’t sleep on those. Let’s keep our momentum going and try to crush the RSM Classic this week, but before we talk strategy and core players let’s recap last weeks Mayakoba Classic
What went right? Really, most everything. We got 14 of the 16 players in the core through the cut, which is step one. Then we had a ton of guys who provided solid results and value including Piercy (T6), Perez (T6), Grillo (15), Pan (T16), Ancer (T21), Reavie (T26), and Hickok (T29). Finally, we had guys who finished up top to give us a shot at the big pay day including Spaun (T3), Lee (2nd), and Kuchar with the win.
What went wrong? Gary Woodland was a big disappointment for his price. Yes he made the cut, but a T41 for $10,700 is not good. Ryan Moore was a complete bust missing the cut and killed some of my balanced teams. He is a guy that continues to befuddle me and I will most likely not be owning him very much in 2019. Kevin Streelman is the only other to miss the cut in the entire core. A great week for us and we continue to do well with full-field, cut events throughout the Fall season throughout the years.
Good luck Team FGI with the RSM!
Jeff’s Strategy & Core- RSM Classic
Wednesday night update- I always try and listen to podcasts and read articles throughout the industry this week. I rarely find information that we do not have, but I do it to know what others are talking about and what the masses will be thinking. I mentioned in our podcast how the Plantation course plays between 1 and 2 shots easier than the Seaside Course. Well per usual that information spreads and soon everybody is talking about it. My mind is always looking for contrarian edges, so if everybody in the industry is telling folks to roster Plantation players in the Showdown slate, then why wouldn’t we go the opposite way and get guys and minimal ownership. Yes, the Seaside course is harder, but that is on average and there will be plenty of guys who score very well on it. If we can gain high quality players with minimal ownership because people are fading them simply because they are playing the Seaside course, I am going to take a few stacked rosters going against the grain and see what happens. It might work it might not, but I always want to share with Team FGI what I am thinking. Good luck friends!
