Jeff’s Hardcore Core- RBC Heritage
Another Masters has passed and in case you have not heard, Tiger Woods won. Although I am sad that one of my favorite tournaments of the year has come and gone, we are fortunate enough to have another great tournament and course for us this week. Harbourtown is one of the top courses on my bucket list to visit one of these years and had I known the field was so strong this week, I might have made a visit happen this year. It is really going to help us get over our Masters hangover and I will dive deep into everything about the course and what players I am targeting, but first let’s recap Augusta.
What went right? We certainly had some of the supporting pieces needed to win a GPP, but unfortunately, not the biggest one with Tiger. We talked about it a bit on the podcast, but I cannot get over the fact that the millionaire maker roster did not have him on it. Truly a aberration as I never remember a huge field GPP not having the winner of the tournament especially when you factor in that Tiger was owned by 13% of the field. Guys like Molinari, Simpson, Kisner, Fowler, and Poulter where all key cogs in which we had heavy exposure to.
What went wrong? My biggest problem (outside of not having Tiger) was one that should not have been a problem and that was losing too many guys to the cut. With the very high probability of making the cut, with the smaller field, there is no way I should have had so many rosters drawing dead heading into the weekend. Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Brandt Snedeker, and of course my boy Paul Casey all turned in miserable and embarrassing performances and finished below guys who have a fraction of their talent. Outside of the cut missers, we also had a very disappointing performance from McIlroy, although he did manage to put up 84 DK points, it wasn’t good enough for his price. Overall it was a disappointing week for my core and one that I am not happy with. Missing on Tiger, Finau, Xander, and Cantlay all contributed to a losing week on the main slate. I am glad we have the RBC Heritage this week, because it is a tournament we have had a lot of success with over the years, and a perfect time to get back to winning.
Best of luck this week Team FGI
