Jeff’s Hardcore Core- RBC Canadian Open
It was another very successful major championship from a DFS perspective as my core did extremely well. Over the last three years, we have found so much success with majors in both GPPs and cash games. If I didn’t have $400 in Matt Kuchar tickets at 80/1 from when we went out to Vegas a few weeks ago, it would be far less painful to have followed The Open. Watching $30,000 slip through your fingers is not a feeling that I think I will be able to escape for some time, especially the way it happened. If you want my take on the farce on the 13th hole, you can tune into our podcast.
I will put all of that aside and say that we had a ton of members do extremely well in GPPs last week, including FGI’s own Erik Dantoft who won $25,000! The fact that Spieth was the guy I identified as the play in the upper tier really made the core last week. Spieth’s 128.5 DK points clobbered DJ, Rahm, and even Rory who played well but only put up 85.5 points. It was imperative that you had Spieth on your rosters in order to win a big GPP. In addition we had some other complimentary players including Brendan Grace who recorded the record 62 on Saturday in route to 76 DK points, which was awesome for his $8,000 price. Kuchar was another obvious highlight from the core as well as Jason Dufner (T14), Stenson (T11), and Scott (T22). Overall only 3 guys out of the 16 in the core missed the cut. The guy who hurt me the most was Francesco Molinari, who I had 20% exposure to and just played putrid. The other major surprise was Louis Oosthuizen’s lackluster performance. Overall another winning major week, which keeps our streak in tact of successful majors.
Onto the Canadian Open with far less talent and even less intrigue. This is one of those week’s that most of us would not even bother tuning into if it were not for DFS, lucky for us we do!
