Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Quicken Loans National
I will keep my recap of the Travelers brief, because we have a loaded field this week at Quicken Loans and I have a ton of things to talk about, including tournament history. (Clearly sarcasm). Last week was good in that I had the winner in my core, but bad that it was Spieth who a third of the field also owned. The tournament started negatively for me even before the opening tee shot when Charley Hoffman pulled out of the Pro-Am. It is never a good situation when guys pull out of a Pro-Am, because you never know how serious the illness is -or- even if there is an illness at all and they just don’t feel like playing with some rich hacks. I always error on the side of caution in these situations, because there is no recovering from a withdraw or mailed in performance. In choosing not to roster him, we saw just about the worst case scenario last week where he puts up a Top 3 finish. It is extremely frustrating because I had him in my Core and locked and loaded for about 25% exposure. When the situation happens again and it inevitably will, my play will remain the same. Golfers are a bit fragile physically and mentally, and often times if there is even an ounce of adversity it throws off their game dramatically. I am going to stay consistent in my play, and you will have to decide how you approach each individual case as they present themselves.
Besides missing out on Charley, Webb Simpson turned out to be the screaming deal that both Zach and I talked about with a T8 finish. Both Finau and Steele, had nice finishes as I assumed. The big shock was Jason Day missing the cut, which further demonstrates that maybe there is an underlying issue with his game. We will have to keep tabs on him moving forward. A few of the low-lights were missed cuts by Glover and English (who I never roster- and shame on me for doing so last week). It was a slightly disappointing week overall, which is unusual when you have the winner in your Core, but we move onto the Quicken Loans.
We talked in depth about it on the podcast this week, but if you are not thrilled with the changes Draftkings has made to their GPPs, I would suggest checking out Fanduel: Sign up here. They offer a $4 GPP that you can create a lot of lineups in using our Fanduel lineup generator. This levels the playing field for smaller stakes guys so they can compete with the huge bankroll players.
Best of luck this week!
