Jeff’s Hardcore Core- President’s Cup

We are awaiting the pairings for the first session of the President’s Cup, which will be released on Wednesday.  We need to wait for these pairings before finalizing lineups, because it has proven to be imperative to be loaded with core guys that play in the first session.  The guys who play the most sessions and rounds will end up scoring the most DK points.  The first session helps indicate who will be playing all of the sessions and if you do not play the first session, you cannot play them all.  We need to have our entire core playing the first match.

It is also necessary to stack your rosters with guys who will be playing together. In addition, it would be best to try and avoid guys playing each other.

I will build some lineups once the first pairings are released and post them on Wednesday.

One piece of information to look at this week are the odds for the most points scored. I have included those below.

Top combined points scorer

Of less importance for building GPP rosters is the course itself.  The course is Medinah Country Club in Chicago, Illinois, which is a long, difficult course.  It has wide open fairways and bentgrass greens. It hosted the 2012 Ryder Cup and the 2019 BMW Championship, which Justin Thomas won (followed by Cantlay and Hideki).  The course has been renovated since being played that year, so look at the results from that year, but do not overweight it too much.

FRI — 5 Foursome Matches

SAT Morning — 4 Fourball Matches   SAT Afternoon — 4 Foursome Matches

SUN  12 — Singles Matches

 

A few guys I will likely be targeting:

Hideki Matsuyama, $8,600

The marquee player on the International side and the best chance to get all five matches. In 2024, Hideki played all five matches and actually beating Scottie in the singles round 1-up. Wins are helpful, but the amount of matches critical, so if Hideki does play every match, $8,600 is a fantastic value.

Adam Scott, $8,000

The grizzled veteran, who has played nearly every match in his President’s Cup career.  A staggering stat is that he has played in 54 of 55 matches in events he has played in.  He has a losing record all-time (20-28-6).

Justin Thomas, $6,400

A blistering 10-3-2 Presidents Cup record, he should play all matches, even though he did not in 2024.  This is one I will wait until I see the pairings before making a decision.

Chris Gotterup, $5,600

I believe there is a good chance that Gotterup playe every match.  Add to that, he should play one of the lesser players on the International team in the single match.

Ryan Fox, $5,400

The Open Championship winner, coming off of a T6 at the BMW PGA Championship last week, at a long, open course, the International team has to play him in every match don’t they?  I believe he is the cheapest guy with the best chance to play every match.
