Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Northern Trust

The first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs begins this week with the Northern Trust.  It should be a fun filled three weeks coming up throughout the rest of August.  I will dive into the Northern Trust, but first let’s recap the Wyndham Championship.

What went right? It was yet another great week for getting guys through the cut as 12 of the 15 players in my core made the cut. It took an epic collapse by Martin Laird on Friday to miss and Kevin Streelman missed by 1. Our guy Viktor Hovland continues to impress every tournament he enters and he added a T4 to his outstanding rookie run. You better believe I will continue to roster Hovland moving forward into the future and we will get a much better price in stronger fields. My guess is that he gets into the winners circle very soon and it very well might be this coming fall. Sungjae Im was outstanding for us as well as he continued his great play with a T6. Kyle Stanley was good (T13) as we expected and Johnson Wagner put up an excellent T13 for only $6,600.

What went wrong? I did not have J.T Poston, but then again not many did as he was only owned by 2% in GPPs. I talked specifically about electing not to include Webb Simpson in my core and rather strategically fading him, because he would be owned by a quarter of the field. Well that happened as he was owned between 22-25% throughout GPPs. In fading him, I needed him not to finish in the Top 3, but we couldn’t even get that to happen. A win by Webb would have been catastrophic, but a runner-up certainly did not help. Certainly the missed cut by Kevin Streelman was the most painful part of the week, as I went with 30% exposure. The tough part about the tournaments with a ton of scoring is one bad round (first round for Streelman) can ruin any chance you have of making the cut. I will also say that even though Lucas Glover made the cut and slipped past the MDF, he still sucked. T72 and was just terrible the entire weekend.

Overall a solid week, and one that we can carry some momentum into the playoffs and hopefully have a big time payday ourselves!
