Jeff’s Hardcore Core- NFL Week 9

The strange trend of min-cashing in GPPs continued in week 8 for me.  As I have talked about before generally speaking you are not as consistently profitable from week to week in GPPs.  It usually takes a big score every once in a while to make you profitable for the majority of the weeks you are not ahead.  This means that my core has been very solid this season from week to week and many lineups have just been a player or two away from a big score.  Definitely reason for optimism.   Before we dive into week 9 let’s recap some of the goods and bads from last weeks core that I built my lineups around.

What went right? The Chiefs continue to dominate and we need to continue to stack them every week.  I am a bit disappointed not to have had Sammy Watkins as a lower owned, lower salary part of the offense.    Again, I chose to load up on Todd Gurley and Adam Theilen and they both dominated again, which has happened all season long.  The runningback position was awesome as half my teams had Gurley and those I chose to pay down, I had a ton of Lindsay and Mack.  The wide receiver position was a mixed bag as I had Theilen and Boyd on half my rosters along with a good share of Davante Adams, however Baldwin, Gabriel, and Thomas were complete duds.  The defense position, with the exception of the Lions were solid with the Redskins turning in a huge effort with 15 points.  If you have not caught onto my theme of targeting whatever defense is playing the Giants and Eli Manning, hop on board.

What went wrong?  The tight end positon continues to screw me, as David Njoku and CJ Uzomah both posted monster duds and hurt some teams.  Although, those guys were so heavily owned and the position was so bad as a whole last week that some rosters I had with them were still able to cash.  I did notice something that I don’t think I have ever seen before.  The roster that took 2nd place in the Millionaire Maker GPP last week actually had David Njoku, who took a zero.  The sickening part is that roster ended up losing by less than one point.  So rather than $1M they won $100k.  All they needed was 1 catch from Njoku.    This is a sick game.  Todd Kelce and O.J Howard were both good at the position.  I thought the Saints would have more production through the air, but as the game flow turned out, they were playing from ahead due to some poor play on the Vikings part.  Neither Brees nor Michael Thomas had requisite production.

Onward to Week 9, Best of luck Team FGI!!!!
