Jeff’s Hardcore Core- NFL Week 6
Week 5 was a big week for FGI members in both golf and football as I saw tons of winning screenshots. My core was really good and yet again I was profitable in large field GPPs, but was able to have any combinations good enough to climb to the very top and contend. This is a strange year in that I have consistently cashed in GPPS, but have yet to pop a big one. Normally, the profitabitily in GPPs will not be as consistent from week to week, but this year it is. I believe some of that has to do with the payout structure and also the amount of really poor lineups entered into those contests is higher than ever before. The pay line has been really low in some GPPs, including the millionaire maker event. This is good for us GPP players because our bankroll does not have as dramatic ups and downs and we are able to be profitable even if we are not necessarily contending to win. Basically it keeps us in the game and occasionally we hit those huge paydays.
What went right last week- Many of the game scripts went according to plan and many of the positive match-ups I targeted came to fruition. As I expected Joe Mixon and TJ Yeldon received a ton of volume and become real cornerstones producing big value for many of my teams. I figured the Redskins would be trailing for most of the game and thus Chris Thompson would be the guy getting all the action in catch-up mode and that proved accurate. Blake Bortles although not a great game as a real life quarterback, his fantasy numbers were tremendous. The combination of Cousins and Diggs was big against a bad Eagles secondary. I will continue to target that match-up on a weekly basis as we have for weeks now. Valdes-Scantling was an excellent value once we found out that both Cobb and Allison were out. He was one of only a couple of options for targets for the Packers and the reason I included him in the if/then section of my column. I will continue to do that so you can capitalize on injuries Sunday morning. Paying up for Kelce was beneficial, I wish however I would have included Ertz into the mix as well. My defenses were actually extremely good last week as well.
What went poorly- Every other tight end not named Kelce. I hate that position. Calvin Ridley did nothing for the first time in a month in what I thought would be a tremendous match-up and shootout. Tyler Boyd and Nelson Agholor also underperformed my expectations as well. I really thought Will Fuller would be the guy, but I think his hamstring might have been an issue.
Enough about last week, let’s turn the page, continue the momentum and keep making some money. Good luck Team FGI!
