Jeff’s Hardcore Core- NFL Week 4

Last week the Core was filled with players who were basically either a “hit” or “miss” and there really was not a whole lot of in between.  If this was a cash game core, I would say that we  failed, because having a few guys who completely bust is not optimal if you are trying to finish in the top half of the field.  In GPPs however, our goal is to identify the highest scorers at each position to give us a chance to finish in the top 1% of all entries and win us the big money.  Having rosters full of guys who have average/decent games does not do us a lot of good.  We had monsters at every position last week, so hopefully you -or- the lineup generator were able to put together the right combination.  Some of those outstanding performances included Cousins, Green, Hunt, McCaffery, Nelson, Gronkowski, Bell, Hyde, Fitzgerald, and Ertz.  We also had some inexplicable grenades within the core as well including Newton, Carr, Ajayi, Allen, Cooper, Benjamin (injury), Pryor, Higgins, and Doyle.  We are always going to have some busts for the week in our core, but ideally we limit them to a lower amount than we had last week and give us a better chance at winning a huge GPP.

Week 4 is upon us already and injuries are starting to add up across the league which in season long fantasy football can kill us, but in DFS it gives us one of those key things that I talked about last week, “opportunity”.  Identifying back-ups -or- other starters that will gain more carries, targets, or playing time because of injuries is vital to our success.  I will cover those guys that will have an increased opportunity this week, below.  I also will talk about how knowing what cornerback will be covering what receiver is also imperative knowledge in DFS football.
