Jeff’s Hardcore Core- NFL Week 3

I discussed game stacking in my strategy article at the start of the season and practiced what I preached last week and stacked the heck out of the Steelers/Chiefs game and it paid off. In my core I had both Mahomes and Roethlisberger, James Conner, Antonio Brown, and Tyreek Hill. In addition I also mixed in Kelce, Ju Ju, and Watkins as tertiary plays into my mass multi entry GPPs. My regret is that I did not have them in my core and have even higher exposure to that game. It served as a good reminder that we need to keep in mind the lower profile guys in games that we believe are going to shootout. I featured Sammy Watkins in my Crystal Ball Article at the start of the year and last week was the perfect week to own him because he was way under everybody’s radar coming off a poor week 1. I consider not having him and Kelce not in my core a miss. Jesse James is another example of a lowly guy who blew up just because it was a shootout. Every once in a while we need reminders of practices and strategy’s that we need to implement as we continue our pursuit of mastering DFS.

Besides Big Ben and Mahomes, I had Deshaun Watson as one of my quarterbacks and he completely smashed with 26.8 DK points and his connection with another member of the core, Will Fuller (28.3 DK Points) was huge. I am going to be on Watson in GPPs against lesser defenses because his upside is so great.  The running-back portion of the core went bonkers as well with Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, Christian McCaffery, and Chris Thompson all having huge weeks. The only duds were Adrian Peterson and Royce Freeman (despite getting into the endzone). Again, a reminder to be careful with running-backs who are one-dimensional, because the Redskins got behind in the game and AP did not get the massive amount of carries that I predicted. I always talk about having to make decisions between studs that you include in your core because you cannot own everybody, well sometimes it helps you just as much when you leave out certain guys. Alvin Kamara was that guy last week as he only scored 17.9 DK points at his $9,500 salary and did not even get to 2X. It wasn’t that I did not like Kamara, because I did, I just felt like for the ownership, price, and match-ups that I liked Gurley, McCaffery, and Gordon a bit better. A stud who I wish I would have avoided was Antonio Brown as he massively disappointed in the huge shootout. I have no regrets on that one however, I would include him again in that situation 10 out of 10 times, especially knowing how big the game shot out. Julio Jones also disappointed for his salary and continues to be a complete boom or bust player. It is tough to fade him at home however, because if he puts up a 40-50 point effort like he does on occasion, you will not be winning a GPP with zero exposure to him. Sanders and Corey Davis was not good (13.6 and 10.5 DK points respectively), Agholor was great (23 DK points), and Golladay is just a beast and is going to have a really big season when all is said and done. The tight end position continues to shit on me as no tight ends in my core did a damn thing, not even Gronk. Only a couple tight ends in the entire NFL had decent weeks last week. I continue my crusade in trying to banish the tight end position from fantasy football 😊

I continue to take a few shots every week trying qualify for the FFWC in Fort Lauderdale in December. I usually enter the $5 qualifier with a bunch of teams and then sometimes take a shot with a $150 entry. Last week I ended up having three of my $5 teams in the Top 55 places out of 16,000 entries. It was another close call like I had in week 1, but as you know if you play in qualifiers it is tough because there is only one place that matters, 1st.

This week is going to be quite a bit different than the first two weeks in that the pricing is much tighter and the match-ups are not nearly as juicy as they have been. We are really going to have to grind this week in our research to uncover value plays and try and stretch that dollar as far as it will go.

Good luck this week Team FGi!
