Jeff’s Hardcore Core- NFL Week 14
Only four weeks left of regular season NF action, wow it goes by quickly doesn’t it? Hopefully you are going to make your season long league’s playoffs and can win some money there, but we most certainly are going to win some money in DFS over the home stretch and throughout the playoffs. I have heard from some of you that had nice GPP week’s last week and a couple that were one player off from popping a monster payday. Let’s see if we can do just that in week 14 as I will talk about my strategy for the week and the player core that I will be utilizing right after we review last week.
What went right? We had some big-time performances that carried our rosters and many of the combinations it took to win large field GPPs. I had some beautiful three-headed runningback pairings on many of my lineups between Todd Gurley, Christian McCaffrey, and Philip Lindsay. I knew that McCaffrey was going to be ultra popular against the Bucs and that came to fruition as he was owned by 40%+ across GPPs. I still felt like I needed to own him, so I ate the chalk with him. It felt like Todd Gurley might be overlooked on the week as I did not hear much buzz around him and that turned out to be true as he was owned by under 25% in many GPPs. Anytime you possess the type of upside that Gurley does, I like to have exposure, especially when he is not massively owned. Lindsay proved to be one of the real slate breakers as he posted 31.9 DK points for what felt like an unreasonably low $5,400 price tag. Other highlights included Jameis Winston, Adam Humphries, Courtland Sutton, Jared Cook, Eric Ebron, the Broncos defense, and another slate breaking performance from Travis Kelce (42,8 DK points).
What went wrong? Probably my biggest miss last week was Julio Jones and that is not a real surprise to me because I have missed on that guy multiple times this year. I realized he was going up against Baltimore, but they have been far from invincible and Jones’s price was slashed all the was down to $7,700. I thought he would be contrarian and between that and the price, it felt like a decent opportunity in GPPs, wrong. Another big disappointment was Cameron Brate. He was only $3,700 and he scored 6.6 DK points so in itself it did not eliminate rosters from contention, but against the Panthers, who have poor against the tight end I felt confident he could get us 4X, wrong. As in that game DJ Moore let us down against a bad Bucs defense. A few others who were not great included Deshaun Watson, Robert Woods, and Matt Lacosse.
Onward to Week 14!
