Jeff’s Hardcore Core- John Deere Classic

There are good weeks, there are not so good weeks, and then there are kick-ass and take names weeks like last week.  Does anything feel better on a Sunday afternoon when you have smashed your core and have a bunch of teams in the mix in GPPs?  What is even better than experiencing that personally, is knowing that everybody in Team FGI that read my Hardcore Core is experiencing the exact same thing.  Congratulations to all of Team FGI that we heard from last week who crushed in GPPs, very well-deserved folks!

Starting with the fade of Kisner who was owned by 25-30% of the field throughout GPPs and missed the cut, giving us a monster advantage right off the top, everything fell into place nicely. Only 2 of the 15 Core guys missed the cut and we had the winner Xander!  Others who helped us crush were Lovemark (T3), Henley (T5), Finau (T7), Holmes (T9), Walker (T18), DeChambeau (T14), and Streelman (T29).  The higher priced guys, Reed and Mickelson clearly did not produce value for their price or propel us to victory, but T20 with a bunch of DK points did not crush us, and allowed the other guys to help us win.

As great as it is to have a week like last week, we need to turn the page and get back to work on the upcoming weeks event.  That is unless you just want to take this week off and start prepping for The Open Championship.  Knowing most of you, I am guessing that is not the case, and you are like me and already started grinding on The John Deere before The Greenbrier even concluded.

The goal of my column each week is to make you a better GPP player, not only that particular week, but in weeks, months, and even years going forward.  There are a ton of content sites out on the market and folks on Twitter that are happy to provide their picks each week.  It is not hard to find people throwing out names, but very few consider or even understand game theory, which I believe is the single most important thing to being successful playing GPPs.  Other factors that are critical, but often overlooked by most are ownership, historical data, statistics, course layout, putting surface, weather, etc.  I am confident that all of Team FGI knows how critical all of this information is and how many variables go into winning GPPs besides just picking names each week and that is why you subscribe to our site and our methodology.
