Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Joburg Open (European Tour Package)

A complete smash for the core last week as we nailed just about everything and we heard from many of you who won GPPs for Euro Tour DFS. The decision to use Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman as the two high priced guys proved to be the correct one as Smith was victorious and Leishman took 4th while Sergio fell back to T24. Out of the 12 in the core, we had only one guy miss the cut (Rumford) and had some outstanding performances from Gibson (T24), Mark Brown (T20), Hickok (T24), Scrivener (T15), and Hebert (T7). The only real dud performance was Hanson at T62, but he was only $7,200 and he made the cut, so not too bad.

I talked about targeting Australian players (I understand there were a lot in the field), and there were 13 Aussies finishing T15 or better. The one guy I am kicking myself for not including in the core was Harold Varner III. I thought his price was a tad high and that his ownership would be high, but it turns out his great tournament history meant something and yet again he delivers in this tournament with a 6th place finish.

We didn’t have Euro Tour DFS for it but at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Dylan Fritelli won again. If you read The Crystal Ball Article:2017 you will remember Fritelli as a member of that column and he put an exclamation point on his fantastic 2017 last week.

This week the Joburg Open is the tournament we will have a stake in and it takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is going to be bananas because there are 240 players in this field and there is a cut. I am guessing there will not be many 6/6 rosters this week unless all the chalk hits. Be sure to read Pari’s tournament preview for all the important particular’s for these courses, which are new this year.  Yes I said ‘these” meaning we have two, Firethorn and Bushwillow both a part of Randpark Golf Club. We are going to have to rely on current form and statistics rather than course history. The FGI EURO Model is going to be the best resource for you to see who grades out well. In my opinion this model is the best tool in the industry for DFS golf research. Feel free to manipulate it however you like, placing different emphasis on different metrics. You will see that we put a zero % weighting on course history on the base model, because of the new venue. You can put 100% on current form if you like or more emphasis on Vegas odds, it is completely up to you.

This is going to be a crazy and fun week for Euro Tour DFS.

Best of luck this week Team FGI!
