Jeff’s Hardcore Core- European Edition- Nordea Masters

Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Hardcore Core- European Edition. I will use the same format as I do with the PGA Hardcore Core and list about 15 guys that I will be using in my own personal core for GPP purposes.  If you haven’t read Pari’s European preview column, be sure to do so to get a background of the course, layout, and strategy. Last week, I did not publish a Hardcore Core, because it was a bit of a scramble trying to get everything on the website when Draftkings announced it on Monday. I did however enter contests and am happy to report that I doubled my investment in GPPs playing the $3 and $27 GPPs. One of the strategies that I can see early on is to fade the guys that are known to U.S Golf fans. I talked about this in my Takeaways from the European Tour Week 1 article. The people in the U.S only know certain guys and that is who they are going to select. Much like we employ the strategy of fading the top owned guys on the PGA Tour most weeks, we will do the same on the Euro Tour. I will mention several guys who I believe will be the most heavily owned each week so that you can utilize the strategy if you so desire. Best of luck this week.

Newsflash, Henrik Stenson is going to be heavily owned this week. Frankly, I do not believe his game sets up well on this course, which is really long. Henrik has shown that he cannot control his driver off the tee, and his three wood hasn’t been all that reliable lately either. If you look back at his tournament history here, it is decent (3 Top 10s in 15 appearances), but I think that is a byproduct of him just being much more talented than the field. Also keep in mind the course has rotated in the past as well. Being the highest priced player, by quite a bit, knowing he will be HEAVILY owned, and seeing his lack of good current form, strikes me as a legitimate fade opportunity. Keep in mind that he could win this tournament on just talent alone, but we need to take calculated risks to win large field GPPs. By the way I also think Alex Noren might be a reasonable fade as well just due to ownership.  Tyrell Hatton will also be on a lot of rosters as well.
