Jeff’s Hardcore Core- CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges

Pat “Freaking” Perez made the game look easy last week en route to a 24 under par tournament, four clear from runner-up Keegan Bradley and it didn’t even feel that close. I will say that I did enjoy staying up late each night watching the coverage, although I swear they played commercials every three minutes. What made it even more enjoyable is I had my one $333 in the mix most of the week ending up 18th place when all was said and done. I got up to as high as 7th place at one point, but Graham Delaet’s volatile mental state cost me a chance at a win. His opening +5 took him out of the tournament and I guess I should be thankful he even stuck it out, as I would have bet a lot of money he would take an early exit after the first round. The rest of my roster and members of my core that performed well included Keegan Bradley (2nd) at only $7,000, Cabrera-Bello (T10) at only $7,400, Lucas Glover (T7) owned by only 2% of the field, and Brendan Steele (T13). If my sixth member, Justin Thomas would have performed up to his normal caliber, I would have been in the Top 5 as well. Others who were good in my core included Lahiri (T10), List (T13), and Hideki (T5) who I chose to mix in as a pivot off of JT in some lineups. In the $333 contest of which there was 200 people, the winner did not have Perez on their roster. The winners of the $4 and $33 GPPs of course did with so many more entries. In the smaller fields or single entries we can get away from not having the winner in our core, but in the larger fields we need to if we are going to win them. The aggregate ownership of the winning roster in the $4 was 88.6 and in the $33 it was 101.9. In these smaller player fields, as we have again this week we need to go on the high end of our normal range, but as you can see we are right on those estimates.

This week we have a new event, The CJ Cup at Nine Bridges at Jeju Island, South Korea another 78 player field, no- cut event. We did really well last week with this same format, so let’s try and keep the ball rolling this week and have another BIG ONE!
