Jeff’s Hardcore Core- BMW Championship
Is it me or does it seem like an eternity since the Dell Technologies Championship? I was absolutely lost last Thursday and Friday without action to monitor throughout the day. I found myself instinctively pulling up the PGA Tour app to check the cutline, only to slide my phone back into my pocket when I remembered there was no event. We did have the Euro Tour, which is great for the first check of the day. Thankfully we had the NFL on Sunday to ease the pain of not having golf sweats throughout the afternoon. If you have not checked out our football coverage, be sure to do so, we have some real great tools and Zach writes a cash game column and I write a GPP column similar to this format. It is a nice compliment to golf especially when we have the very few off weeks from golf during the entire year. This week however we certainly have action, in the form of The BMW Championship, the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. These events are so fun to watch because everybody is giving 100%, some to try and make the Tour Championship and the others to try and win the grotesque amount of $10,000,000.
The pricing for this 70-person tournament on Draftkings is interesting as the lowest priced guy is $6,900, while the top tier remains in the $10k-$11k range with Spieth the highest at $11,800. This is very different than last years BMW Championship pricing where the lowest price was $6,100 and there were 21 guys below $6,900. This pricing obviously makes it much more difficult to build rosters and especially if you want to roster one of the top guys. I frankly have no idea what DK is doing and I highly doubt they know what they are doing. I do not mind tighter pricing, I actually think it favors FGI, but this pricing structure is not good for a loaded field like this. If you want a top tier player like Spieth, you will be left with only $7,640 on average for the other five spots on your roster. If you were to roster Spieth and Paul Casey (who continues to be underpriced), you would be left with only $7,250 per player. There are only 22 guys priced under $7,300, which does not give you a ton of great options. This is going to make building rosters extremely difficult, especially considering our desire to roster those guys up top who are in contention for the FedEx Cup. We need to zero in on 1 or 2 and make a stand with them this week, but as you know, it is very difficult to pick a winner of a golf tournament.
