Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Australian PGA Championship (European Tour Package)

My strategy last week was to go extreme stars and scrubs and jam in two top priced guys (Rose, Fitzpatrick, and Fleetwood) and the remaining four guys in the $6k-$7k range.  The hope was that we slide the four low priced guys through the cut while the big guns dominate.  Well, the part of the equation that I would give the highest chance of not coming through for us would be the low priced guys, but most of them actually made the cut for us.  Only two guys in the entire core missed the cut, which is actually pretty amazing given the volatility of European DFS golf.  The biggest problem was that the top guys didn’t do the dominating that we expected or needed.  They performed o.k. (Rose-T10, Fitz- T19, Fleetwood-6th), but when you pay the premium price, we really need Top five finishes from them.  The best performances came from Sordet (T10) and Bjork (T2).  Yet another week where we min cashed in most GPPs and turned a profit because of the fact we had so many guys through the cut, but we were unable to get to the top of the standings and get that big payday we strive for.

This week we head down under for the Austrailian PGA Championship. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie- Oi, Oi, Oi.  For some reason when I started looking at this tournament this chant popped into my head and I flashed back to 2005 watching the World Series of Poker and listening to Joe Hachem’s posse chant it every single hand he won. I used to be huge into poker, play a lot online, and watch every single hand that was broadcast on television.  I still play in the WSOP most every year, but outside of that I just don’t have time to drive to the local cardroom and spend hours or days playing in tournaments.   It is so hard to believe it has been well over a decade since the poker boom.

As it is every year this field is loaded with Aussies and if you look at the tournament history page you will notice they often play pretty well on their home turf.  Obviously since there are so many Aussies in the field, we are naturally going to have some up top, but there is something to be said for guys who are used to the types of conditions in Australia.

Best of Luck this week Team FGI!
