Jeff’s Hardcore Core- AT&T Byron Nelson

The AT&T Byron Nelson is the event this week as we are one week away from the 2nd major of the year, which feels really weird to me. The field this week is actually pretty pathetic to put it kindly, but thankfully we have DFS and can get some action and make an otherwise uninteresting event very interesting. I will dive deep into my strategy for this week as well as my player core, but first let’s recap briefly a wonky week at Wells Fargo. I do not remember a week that has had such great results for some players in the core and such dreadful results for others. It was truly a GPP type- high ceiling, low floor kind of week.

What went right? Anytime you have exposure to a $6,600 player that is owned by less than 1% of the field and that player wins the tournament, it should be a decent week. I ended up with 7.3% exposure to Homa, which put me way overweight the field. I talked a bit about it on the podcast, as I liked the way he had been playing leading into the event as indicated by his results and on our Rolling Stats Tool. This is such a great tool as it shows us who is starting to play well leading into events before maybe the rest of the DFS world is keen to them.  Homs also is long off the tee, which was a key metric for me last week as well. Others that were boom rather than bust last week included Johnny Vegas (T8) who we continue to own and he continues to play well. In looking forward to the PGA Championship I like him a lot. Keith Mitchell added another Top 10 for us, Adam Schenk blew away his price with a T13, and Ollie Schneiderjans gave us decent output for his price.

What went wrong? Unfortunately, too much. A rash of missed cuts killed my chances of getting my Max Homa rosters into the winners circle. Phil Mickelson, Charles Howell, Varner, and Sam Burns were all big blows to my core as they missed the cut. Add in withdraws from Gary Woodland and Ben An, and if not for the few guys, including Homa, it would have been a wipeout. As it turned out, I was net down my weekly bankroll, but it was not terrible.

Let’s go get Byron Nelson-
