Jeff’s Hardcore Core- AT&T Byron Nelson

I feel like the Monday after returning from a trip to Las Vegas this week.  An absolute high last week as we had one of my two favorite events of the year combined with a solid core and I placed an outright wager on Webb Simpson at 80-1 to win a nice little bit of money.  I love TPC Sawgrass and I have never had less of a sweat on a wager in my life with Webb coasting to victory starting on Friday.  I also heard from a ton of you who had really nice weeks in DFS and in the betting arena as well. Winning myself is great, but when Team FGI takes part in the winnings, it is a million times more gratifying.  Congrats to all of you who had a great week.  I will dive into this week’s less than stellar field and strategy for the AT&T Byron Nelson in a bit, but first let’s go over what went well and what went pear-shaped for The Players.

First, having nearly 40% of Webb Simpson when the rest of the field owned him at 15% gave us a monstrous boost.  Simpson scored 136.5 DK points, which was 26.5 more than the second highest scorer last week.  A low-owned, low-priced guy who does that, is the ultimate  Outside of Webb, our other top performers were Tommy Fleetwood, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Chesson Hadley, Ryan Moore, Alex Noren, and Patrick Cantlay. My last minute strategic fade of Henrik Stenson actually turned out nicely as he finished 42^nd in Draftkings points, which is not good considering he was the 10^th highest priced player.  Those shares that I moved to Fleetwood and Rose turned out nicely and those shares that I moved to Reed equaled a push.  I unfortunately moved some shares to Fowler, which as you know sucked and I also moved a few to Matsuyama, which was equally as bad.  Overall I think it was a good move and I would do it again given the opportunity.  I already mentioned Fowler’s epic collapse on Friday to cost me and a lot of FGI members a tremendous amount of money, but others who were failures of the Core included Luke List, Russell Henley, and Kyle Stanley.  Only 4 of the 20 guys in my core missed the cut, so there was not a tremendous amount of carnage.

For the fifth time this year my Crystal Ball article featured a winner and we are only half way through the year.  I am hoping to get to 11 and eclipse last year’s total of winners. As bad as Rickie looked this past week, I cannot give up on my prediction of him winning this year.  It could be a major, but I am also thinking he could win a FedEx Cup play-off event as well.  Also, be heads up for Brooks Koepka now.  I had him in my core last week because I wanted to be on the forefront for when he was fully recovered from his wrist injury and I would say we accomplished that as he finished T11.  Remember when healthy he is one of the best in the world.

Enough about The Players let’s get into this week’s event, which is at a new course this year. I have already logged about 10 hours researching the course and layout this past weekend.  We are going to have to work harder than ever considering the lack of strength of this field and pricing that is much higher than what we normally see for the same guys.
