Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (European Tour Package)
I would say it was a crazy, unpredictable week in Euro Tour DFS, but actually it is what we have grown accustomed to and has become standard. Unlike the PGA Tour where you can generally count on the top few priced guys to at least make the cut, the Euro Tour is quite opposite. Most every week it is a battle to get all of our guys through the cut, no matter how good they are. Sergio, Noren, and Wiesberger, the top priced guys last week all missed the cut. Luckily, Garcia was the only one in my core, and I did not have a large exposure to him as I mentioned in my column, so it did not hurt bad. What hurt was one of the hottest players on tour, Eddie Pepperell missing the cut as well as Jordan L Smith who I had a decent exposure to as well. On Friday when the cut was determined I had numerous teams near the tops of leaderboards across GPPs with Westwood in 1st, Ramsay in 2nd, Fitzpatrick in the Top 5, and guys like Sterne and Horsey up near the top as well. As the weekend went on however those guys dropped back and so did my teams. Fortunately most of them ended up cashing thanks to guys like Kaymer, Elvira, Ramsay, Ilonen, and Fitz, but they were not the big cashes I shoot for.
For those of you not used to the volatility of Euro Tour, it is very possible that you can cash in GPPs having only four guys on your roster make the cut. Do not get discouraged and write off your chances if you have 1 or 2 guys miss the cut in Euro DFS. Again, we had a decently successful week, but still did not break the bank without Dunne or Rory on any of our rosters. Shout out to Pari, who writes our Preview columns as he recommended Paul Dunne last week and said this: “This could be the coming out party for him that we all thought we’d see a lot sooner. Dunne was close to making the core, but I incorrectly left him on the cutting room floor.
This week’s event, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is held on three courses we know very well, the Old Course St Andrews, the Championship Course Carnoustie and Kingsbarns Golf Links. Each of the three courses will be played the first three days and the final round again on the Old Course at St Andrews.
The cut will be the Top 60 and ties and will take place after the third round.
We have tournament history to utilize for this event, plus The Open Championship was held at St Andrews in 2010 and 2015 and Carnoustie in 2007.
