OVERVIEW

We have another new venue on the docket this week as the ZOZO moves to Sherwood Country Club in California. Many of you may know this course used to host the Hero World Challenge back in the early to mid-2000’s. Tiger won the event five times during its run there, which is impressive even if it was a 17-man event. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus – which also speaks to why Tiger probably likes the course as he’s had plenty of success on Nicklaus designs over his career. With most Nicklaus designs there’s plenty of bunkering to navigate around, and really if the wind isn’t blowing, this should be the course’s main line of defense against low scores. There are some tee shots that may visually give players some anxiety, but its few & far between and shouldn’t be much of a challenge to the best in the world. The course is described as a good risk-reward setup and you need to be on with your distance control as the targets are very small. I’m thinking this is a “thinking man’s” course this week and we’ll see guys who like to shape their shots into a lot of these greens coming out victorious. Sign up for an FGI account today to see the rest of this post.
