Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- WGC Mexico
OVERVIEW
The players hop the proverbial wall on their way to Mexico this week as the third installment of the WGC Mexico (no cut event) kicks off this week. The course plays at elevation, which results in a less than 10% bump in ball flight – giving all players a bump on their clubs. Distance is still king, but tee shot placement is the real star this week as you’ll want to make sure you’re in the fairway as well as being in the correct spot from the fairway. Speaking of fairways, we have another event with kikuyu grass in the fairways, propping up the ball and letting the best in the world spin back their approach shots. With the Tour being in Mexico, I think it’s pertinent to acknowledge the “Latino Factor”. Sergio, Rahm, Rafa, and Grillo are in the field, and between the four of them they have seven of eight appearances resulting in three Top 10’s. It’s not predictable as each of the players (sans Grillo) accounts for one of those Top 10’s, and only two of them came in the same year, but it’s a narrative that I’m willing to consider especially because I think Grillo is a guy we’ll want to look at in multi-entry contests. Finally, the weather. As of writing it looks like we’ll get sun and calm winds, so we shouldn’t have to worry about rain delays or gale force winds. Which will be a breath of fresh air!
