Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- WGC Match Play
OVERVIEW
This event has always been one of my favorites. Match play, most of the world’s best in the field, and like March Madness, we see some upsets! Match Play week has been a bit different the past few years (last year it was cancelled completely) and I think they’ve finally figured out a format that works the best. First off we have the pods, which is round robin play, from there on out we have our standard match play bracket style of play where the winner after 18 holes moves onto the next round. Pool play begins Wednesday and goes until Friday, ties will be decided via playoff, and we’ve seen in the past where a player just doesn’t want to play so they concede. The Round of 16 & the quarterfinals will take place on Saturday and final the semifinals and final will conclude on Sunday. There’s a lot of holes to be played, so I think fatigue is definitely something you want to take into account when deciding on who you’re going to choose for your rosters. Speaking of rosters, there’s also the game theory of targeting players from both sides of the bracket to fully maximize your potential in DFS contests. You wouldn’t want to choose 5 from one side and one from the other, or 6 from one side, as it reduces your chances of getting 4 players into the final four – which is ultimately your goal.
