Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- The ZoZo Championship
OVERVIEW
This week the PGA Tour heads to Japan to play in the inaugural event called the ZoZo Championship. Jason Day, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama played this course last night/this morning in a skins challenge (won by Jason Day). The course is a short and tight plot of land that features a ton of tree-lined fairways and greens with some fairly heavy bunkering. The Par 4’s are fairly short by PGA Tour standards (none of them are over 425 yards) and the course features a few drive-able Par 4’s which should help keep fans intrigued. There’s rain in the forecast this week, which plays a part in the rough more than anything and since accuracy off the tee seems to be an important facet, I’d look to target players who don’t have huge issues with accuracy. The caveat here is that this course could be considered a “less than driver” course, which brings all the bombers closer to the accurate hitters as they’ll be hitting 3-woods and irons off the tee and shouldn’t be too far behind those who are hitting driver. An interesting note this week is that there are two greens per hole and if (for some reason) players hit the wrong greens in regulation, they’ll be given a free drop. I don’t see this being a huge issue, but who knows. Click here if you’d like to look at the course flyover. Flyovers are helpful, but sometimes don’t give you a true sense of how tight properties are, but I’m always willing to give new courses a look before making my lineups.
