Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- The Presidents Cup
OVERVIEW
We have what everyone has been clamoring for this week in the GOLF DFS world, CAPTAINS SPOT SHOWDOWN contests for the President’s Cup being held in Australia. Since this is a new format and an event we haven’t had the pleasure of covering yet, things will look a bit different than usual, but the information provided will still be valuable to your roster building needs. Royal Melbourne is a “sandbelt” course that plays firm and fast and those conditions only get magnified if the winds blow, and since this is Australia, they will more than likely blow. Links specialists will be the ideal type of players to target this week regardless of format and with this being match play, you’ll want to target aggressive players (as well as any Aussies as I’m sure they have a knowledge base of the course). There are a few nuggets worth noting, and I only bring this up because when something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Note 1: The American’s have won the last seven President’s Cup events. Note 2: This is the second time in the history of the President’s Cup that the US Team had an average World Ranking of 13 or better. The first time was in 1998, when the event was held at… wait for it… Royal Melbourne. The International team won that round, and while this is definitely not the same team, or same makeup of players it’s something to keep in mind when building your rosters. Just because you think the American’s will run away with this based on the overall talent of the team, doesn’t mean it’s out of the range of outcomes that the Internationals not only hang in there, but end up beating this team. I do feel like they could be overlooking this, where the Internationals only get to experience this type of team format every other year.
The format: Thursday – Fourball, Friday – Foursomes, Saturday AM – Fourball, Saturday PM – Foursomes, Sunday – Singles. While it’s tough to forecast who will be playing who, I think based on the Captain (TW) and the team makeup, we should have a decent idea of who will be playing with whom. On the International side, it’s more of a guess so pay attention to groupings and pairings before lock and make adjustments on the fly.
