Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- The Players Championship

OVERVIEW

TPC Sawgrass, the site of when the golf world shut down last year following a marvelous opening round by Hideki Matsuyama that proved to be all for nothing. TPC Sawgrass is a familiar course to anyone who either plays real golf or video game golf. I remember back to when I played PGA Tour Golf II on Sega Genesis and this course was probably one of the hardest on there (the game itself was pretty difficult too from what I remember). The island green, Tiger’s “better than most” moment as well as some random golfers winning the event like Craig Perks chipping in multiple times on the back 9 to win his only PGA Tour event. The event has provided many memories over the years and I expect this year to be no different. The leaderboard can change multiple times on Sunday, so your players aren’t out of it until it’s officially over. This is only the 2^nd (full) year of history where the event has been played in March, so we have a small sample from the change in dates. Because of this, a lot of our data may be skewed because the course plays different in March (softer) than it does in May (firmer). That’s just something to keep in mind when building your rosters. Last week we saw some Florida residents up on the leaderboard and even though a non-resident won (Bryson), I think it’s important to keep an eye on them this week as we’ve seen a lot of players who currently reside in Florida continuously contend at this event. One last housekeeping note before we get into it – this week we have the first Millionaire Maker on DraftKings, so if you’re someone who likes to max out contests, this is your week for a shot at $1MM!
