OVERVIEW
Week one of the FedEx Cup Playoffs is here and we’re in New York at “Augusta of the North”, according to Tim Shifflett head professional. Scott Brown played the course last year after missing the cut at Bethpage and made the comparison as well, but I’m not 100% buying into that comparison quite yet. It has been said that it’s a second shot course where hitting the correct quadrant on the fast greens is imperative in being able to score well. There are also shaved areas around the greens, sharp edged bunkers and mulch around the trees, so I guess to the naked eye it may “look” a bit like Augusta, but by no means will we be using Augusta as a comp-course. Six of the par 4’s are over 450 yards, there’s a drive-able par 4 on the course as well that measures in at 315 yards and is surrounded by hazards (both water and bunkers) – wind direction will play a big role in how players decide to attack this hole. There are only two par 5’s, one of which measures over 600 yards and appears to be a three-shot hole even for the longest of hitters. It should be a fun week seeing a new course on Tour, so let’s get into the plays.
