Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- The Memorial
OVERVIEW
Using my new approach at trying to find a type of player to succeed this week seemed to work much better the past few weeks so we’re going to continue to look at the leaderboards through the years to determine the type of players we should be targeting. With winners like Tiger Woods (5x), Kenny Perry (3x), Tom Watson (2x) and Fred Couples’ track record at this course even as recently as 2005, it seems to me that experience on the course is key. Knowing how to play the breaks on the greens, and place your tee shots seems to be the most important factors which makes sense considering Jack designed the course similarly to Augusta National. Justin Rose has been a winner and runner-up here, as has Furyk, Rickie Fowler has been runner-up at this event twice in the last 8 years. The past five years have been dominated by ball strikers and strong long iron players in the likes of Dufner, McGirt, Lingmerth and Matsuyama. Kuchar’s win was basically the icing on the cake for him as he’s played extremely well on Nicklaus designed courses over his career and the win was imminent. The obvious player type to target would be Tiger Woods, but that player doesn’t exist as one player, but we can see his game in a lot of young stars this week. Whomever has their tee to green game the sharpest this week will be shaking Jack’s hand on Sunday, and I would love to see Tiger be that guy again.
