Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- The Masters
OVERVIEW
The week we’ve all been waiting for is finally here; Masters Week! Before we dive into the picks, it’s important to note that this is a major that’s typically won by premier talent, but in certain instances a fringe player can win. Granted, most of golf supremacy has at least one green jacket, but when’s the last time we heard Trevor Immelman’s name being called? Mike Weir? Ok, those were cheap shots, but it’s true. Some men are made after they win their first major and others are defined by it. Charl has won a few times on both tours since his win, so has Adam Scott. Zach Johnson was gifted an Open Championship thanks to Jordan Spieth, but outside of that has done very little. My point of all this rambling is, elite players win multiple majors and good players win one or none. Remember that little anecdote when you’re trying to decide between two players who have similar skill sets, but one has tasted the glory of being called a major champion and the other has not. One last item worth noting. Since the introduction of the Par 3 contest in 1960, no winner of the Par 3 contest has ever gone on to win that year’s Masters. It should also be noted that none of the tournament favorites have ever won the Par 3 contest. These are the past five Par 3 contest winners and their placing during the actual tournament (something to think about before finalizing your rosters): 2016 – Jimmy Walker (finished 29th), 2015 – Kevin Streelman (finished 34th), 2014 – Ryan Moore (finished 12th), 2013 – Ted Potter Jr. (missed cut), 2012 – Jonathan Byrd & Padraig Harrington (finished 27th & 8th).
