Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- The CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges
OVERVIEW
Year two at Korea’s Maui and another no cut event means we get to see all of our players play all four days. The course was designed to create a Scottish Highlands look, but looks more like an American course in a Scottish atmosphere (see also: “American links” courses). It was built under the backdrop of Mount Halla at 600 meters (which translates to almost 2000 feet) so the ball will be traveling further than usual. As far as any history goes, there have been four men’s events held on Jeju Island, but on three different courses (this course now hosting two events). Graeme McDowell won a European Tour event here (and won at Pebble Beach), and Aaron Oberholser won an unofficial event at the course (he hasn’t won anywhere else worth noting). This is where we could glean some kind of course comp this week. In an interview, Oberholser stated the whole island reminded him of California golf, specifically Pebble Beach. If you’re looking for course comps I’ll be using Kapalua, Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines as well as using some data (not shotlink since it wasn’t available) from last week’s CIMB Classic as there seems to be some overlap for certain players.
