OVERVIEW

Well I have egg on my face after last week. It was great to see Hideki finally get his first major, and hindsight being 20/20 it makes sense that he would get the positive karma a full year after his bid to win The PLAYERS (unofficially the 5th major) was cut short due to COVID-19. He played remarkably and hopefully those of you who bet him all the time stayed with the process and bet him at a great number. As DFS/Betting analysts, we often get in our own way when suggesting players for each week and I certainly had blinders on following what I thought was a poor outing at the Valero for him. Moving onwards and upwards from here, we get the RBC Heritage and Pete Dye’s classic course which rewards ball striking, but also a hot putter. Last year’s edition saw Webb Simpson (pre-tourney 30/1 or better) win the event finishing 7th in SG: T2G, 8th in SG: APP, and 1st in SG: Putting (gaining over 6.5 strokes on the greens). Webb had great course history leading into the event and was coming off a missed cut the week prior which was a narrative that basically started a winning trend for us in 2020 – bet the best players with the longest odds and solid ball striking. In 2019 CT Pan scrambled his ass off, which is normally an outlier stat when looking at past performance. He finished 11th in SG: T2G, 18th in SG: APP, 7th in SG: ARG, and 5th in SG: Putting. Looking back at past performance is something I’m going to do going forward because I want to continue to provide good analysis backed by stats that make sense and can help us identify winners going forward.
