OVERVIEW

The WGC St. Jude didn’t go very well for me, but hopefully it did for you. It’s funny because I feel like all of the plays I listed finished really well, but because I played Rory in both of my lineups, I was basically dead (even though I had JT as well). With that said, we move on to the season’s first major – The PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, CA. The course has held a PGA Tour event in the past, the 2005 WGC American Express (won by Tiger Woods – shocker), the 2009 President’s Cup (won by the United States – another shocker) and the 2015 WGC Match Play (won by Rory McIlroy over Gary Woodland). The course immediately underwent renovation following the Match Play event in an attempt to get up to snuff for a major and they finally got their shot this year. A few notes before we get into the preview: the weather is supposed to be cold, like high’s in the mid 60’s. It’s going to feel like fall out there, which I think gives an advantage to a lot of European Tour players. They also seem to show up when American golf courses play tougher, which in theory, this should. Which means you’ll be seeing a lot of Euros in this week’s article. Good news on the “cut-line” this week, we get top 70 and ties through the cut, hopefully the majority of those being cut are the teaching pros who are in the field. Which reminds me, don’t bother trying to get too sneaky with teaching pros, the chance of finding the 1 or 2 that actually make the cut is a -EV decision.
