Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Palmetto Championship at Congaree
OVERVIEW
Due to Canada’s Covid-19 restrictions / travel mandates, this year’s RBC Canadian Open is being replaced by the Palmetto Championship at Congaree. It’s a tough spot in the schedule to fill, and Congaree is definitely getting the short end of the stick for stepping up in a time of need, but this is the PGA Tour after all and it is what it will be. The field is here either out of necessity or because of local ties due to where this event is taking place. There’s an international group of players who are kind of stuck in the middle who are also in the field (Hatton, Fleetwood, Fitzpatrick) who seem to be playing because they don’t want to fly back home, but I’m not sure this is the best tune-up before heading to Torrey. The players who need the money are here because they have no other choice unless they want a week guaranteed to not make any money, and those that are here that don’t have financial concerns (DJ, Brooks) make you scratch your head because next week’s major (US Open) is across the country in California. This will be the first time we see Florida State’s John Pak, winner of the Ben Hogan & Fred Haskins awards (the nations top collegiate golfer), he’s also the top ranked player in the PGA Tour University Class which is basically a soft landing spot for college golfers after graduating. I’m not sure he’s more than a MME GPP flier considering we don’t really know how his game sets up.
