OVERVIEW

To hold myself accountable and keep track of how things are going on a week to week basis. This should help me get better at identifying key players as well as sharpening my eye when it comes to player pools. Last week’s recommendations were mostly good with Rose (T15), Fitzpatrick (2nd), Korhonen (T25), Rai (T18), Suri (T18), EMOL (T40), Soderberg (T25), Morrison (T60), Willett (T18), and Guido (T48) all making the cut, but Casey, F Molinari, Winther, Sullivan, Zanotti, Donald, Hebert and Dantorp all missed the cut and hurt our bottom line especially since we had FMOL and Zanotti at core exposures. Last week was another good reminder of why I’m doing this reflection piece as it’s teaching me that even though top tier talents are in the field, these types of fields should be treated differently this time of year. I think it’s best to shift our core focus to motivated young players for a few weeks instead of proven vets, simply because if they don’t have it out of the gate, it appears as though they mail it in.

This week we head to Le Golf National for the Open de France. As you may be aware, the Euros destroyed the Yanks at the last Ryder Cup which was held at this course and I’d assume we’d see a similar setup, which should favor the same type of players we targeted last week (don’t be surprised to see a lot of similar names). The course is very exposed to windy conditions, so make sure to check the forecast before lock on Wednesday as there may be a draw bias that needs to be favored. Le Golf National is a TPC stadium style links course as there’s minimal trees that come into play and the final three holes feature a lake which is very much in play. All three Par 5’s are reachable in two shots for most of the field, making birdie or better a must here. Ball striking and scrambling should be key stats again this week and playing the course in the past has proven to be an asset as we’ve seen several players who have played well continue to do so in future appearances.
