Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Open de Espana
OVERVIEW
Euro Tour golf is back and what better place to start than home of the recently defending champion to miss the cut at the Masters – Sergio Garcia (poor Sergio McGarciavoy… too stubborn to club up, too stubborn to take a better drop. Personally, I thought Lerner’s tweet was pretty funny, and Angela needs to chill, but whatever). Anyways, this week we head to a new host course of this event. It’s an undulating course with minimal tree-lines and may be considered a links course by many. As you’d expect from a course in Spain, it’s a 2nd shot course, where distance off the tee should put you in good position to score. The fairways are fairly large and the green complexes have undulations in the mounds surrounding them as well as on the greens themselves. The expected weather as of writing looks to be cold in the morning and there is rain in the forecast for Friday, but the weekend conditions look to be ideal. The course hosted the 2007 Spanish Open (won by Charl Schwartzel) and the 2009 Madrid Masters (won by Ross McGowan) so two different tiers of talent there. I’d recommend looking back at those leaderboards prior to lock to get a good idea of any guys I may have missed in this writeup.
