Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Maybank Championship (European Tour Package)
OVERVIEW
The European Tour heads back to Saujuana Golf & Country Club for another edition of the Maybank Championship this week. The purse here is much larger, which may speak to why the field is a touch better than last week’s Kenya Open, but still not big enough to lure the European Tour’s best (outside of paying players to appear, it would be tough to get a good draw after the last three weeks on the PGA Tour). Saujuana is a score-fest where the player who screws up the least will probably win. Last year’s champion Sharma made three bogeys all week. Zanotti, the winner two years ago, only had four bogeys all week. You cannot make mistakes out here if you want to win. Ryan Fox had nineteen birdies, an eagle and an albatross last year and didn’t even come runner-up! That’s how tough it is out here even with the second tier of European Tour players. With all that being said, we’ll be targeting players who avoid bogeys as well as those who can go low and we’ll be making sure we have heavy exposure to those players in GPPs, especially multi-entry GPPs. The course is pretty straight forward as it’s a parkland style, undulating fairways that are tree-lined. The greens are small here, which puts an emphasis on ball striking/approach shots and if you miss the small greens there are some bunkers waiting for you. Scrambling is also a key stat this week not only from the hazards, but also if you’re missing the small greens, you’re going to have to scramble to save par.
