OVERVIEW

We’re back to “not knowing anything” about the course this week as we head to Texas’ top-rated municipal course and Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, TX. The 1965 PGA Championship was played here, but the game of golf has changed quite a bit since then, so there’s very little to gleam from that event. The field is actually pretty decent considering we’re a week away from The Masters and you’d think some of the top players in the world wouldn’t want to risk a positive COVID test heading into next week, but world #1 Dustin Johnson returns to action following his two week absence due to COVID, as well as Hideki Matsuyama, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Tyrrell Hatton, and Brooks Koepka (who had a hand in the re-design in 2019). It’ll be interesting to see how well the best in the world play on a muni course, so I’m actually intrigued to see how this week plays out. There’s also a Pro-Am this week, which seems like something new during the COVID pandemic, so keep an eye on any early withdrawals as we don’t know how the state of Texas is handling social distancing. Speaking of which, there will also be fans allowed on the property this week, which should be a welcome to a group of players who are used to playing in front of crowds but haven’t gotten to feel that in over six months.
