OVERVIEW

First things first, the field is extremely strong not only at the top of the card this week, but also down through the value range. The name of the event has changed, but everything else is the same. Formerly known as the Northern Trust Open, the Genesis is hosted by Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA and the course is pretty tough. The fairways are much harder to hit than last week, so we’ll see a lot more players hitting less than driver this week (not all players will employ this strategy). The shorter players off the tee become more valuable than in past events as well, so don’t overlook them when trying to decide between a bomber and the opposite of a bomber (I couldn’t find a good antonym for this term). Weather as of writing looks to be somewhat wet with rain in the forecast for the majority of the event, so keep an eye on tee time draws and wind speeds as more information is released.
