Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Fort Worth Invitational
OVERVIEW
Fort Worth Invitational, formerly known as the Dean & Deluca, Crown Plaza and Bank of America invitational(s), but still held at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX. With the invitational status, we have a reduced field of 125 players, meaning more emphasis on 6/6 this week and making sure those 6/6 finish near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday. Colonial is a Par 70 with only two Par 5’s (one is over 600 yards), placing more emphasis on Par 4 and Par 3 scoring this week. Dating back to 2008, former winners are primarily strong putters (except for Chris Kirk and Adam Scott). This course rewards ball striking and scrambling; plain and simple. Kisner gained over 7 strokes between the two, last year to edge out two of the top players in the field to win. Spieth won in 2016 gaining over 4, but gained 9 strokes on the greens to beat… Harris English?!?! Chris Kirk did most of his damage on the greens as well in 2015, gaining over 7 strokes via putting, and only 5 strokes between approach and scrambling. This isn’t a course you can bomb it all over the place at, and get away with good lies. Bombers like Rahm will need to be smart with club selection as the premium will be on hitting approaches from the fairway. The greens are typically firm and fast, meaning you need to place your tee shot in the right spot to get a lofted club to spin the ball close. Wind hasn’t typically been an issue here in the past, but it’s Texas; anything can happen.
