Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Farmers Insurance Open

OVERVIEW

The California Swing provides us with yet another event where multiple courses are in play. Like last week, one of the courses is the primary course (Torrey Pines – South will see 54 holes of play), but prior to the cut one of them will also see 18 holes of action (Torrey Pines – North). We all know about the history of the South course and how it’s a major venue (it will again host a US Open this year), so it’ll be interesting to see how Golf Twitter reacts to how certain players play this week. I’ve also placed a wager on Matthew Wolff to win the US Open at 45/1 as I think his game sets up very well for this course, and he will be on my betting card this week as well at 33/1. I strongly dislike these types of tournaments, but we have to adapt in order to make money. Luckily, we only have one more of these types of events for a while, so we’ll have to take notes on what worked last week, what works this week and apply that strategy to when the Tour hits the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. When looking at the names of players who have won this event over the years we see guys who are proven winners on Tour. Leishman has five PGA Tour wins, Rose has 24 PGA Tour wins (one major), Day has 17 wins (one major), Rahm has 12 wins (no major yet), Sneds has 13 wins, and Tiger Woods has seven wins alone at this course, eight if you include his US Open win here as well. This has primarily been a “big-boy” tournament over the years and I don’t see that changing this year. Through three events, we’ve seen the following players win (pre-tournament betting odds in parenthesis) Harris English (30/1), Kevin Na (80/1) & Si Woo Kim (60/1). I think this is the first week we see a winner who goes off <30/1 this week.
