Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges
New event with no history and no cut again this week. The Club at Nine Bridges is referred to as “Korea’s Maui” (keep players who have played at Kapalua in mind when making lineups this week). The course was designed to create a Scottish Highlands look, but looks more like an American course in a Scottish atmosphere (see also: links courses on American soil). It was built under the backdrop of Mount Halla at 600 meters (which translates to almost 2000 feet) so the ball will be traveling further than usual. As far as any history goes, there have been three men’s events held on Jeju Island, but on different courses. Graeme McDowell won a European Tour event here, and Aaron Oberholser won an unofficial event at the course. This is where we could gleam some kind of course comp this week. In an interview, Oberholser stated the whole island reminded him of California golf, specifically Pebble Beach. It may be farfetched as the course comps out closer to Kapalua in looks, but the greens are a different species and at the end of the day, it’s still a links course. So, if you’re looking for course comps to narrow down your picks, I’ll be using Kapalua (to an extent) and Pebble Beach (unfortunately it’s tough to break this down since the AT&T is a three-course rotation). I may also toss in some Torrey samples just to see if there’s any overlap (and give myself more reason to burn money on Jason Day).
