Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview – Canadian Open

RBC Canadian Open

OVERVIEW

The Canadian Open returns to Hamilton Golf & Country Club this week for the first time since 2012 when Scott Piercy beat Robert Garrigus & William McGirt by one stroke. The course has hosted other previous editions of this event in 2006 (won by Jim Furyk) and 2003 (won by Bob Tway) so we have a little bit of history to learn from, but the field is full of attendees who have never played the course in tournament play (so there won’t be any history listed this week). The course features three 9-hole courses, but only the West & South 9’s will be played this week at a Par 70 at just over 6,900 yards. The courses are fairly tree-lined as the West 9 features more of a “woodland” type of construction to it and the South course is more of a “parkland” type. The greens are fairly undulated, which means players will need to hit their approach shots to areas rather than pin seeking on every shot. The Par 3’s are the toughest holes on the course (three of them are over 210 yards), so making sure our players aren’t terrible Par 3 scorers will be a key stat that might go overlooked this week (especially with all of the focus being on how bombers should rip apart this short course).
