OVERVIEW

A Jack Nicklaus design, GCGL (Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof) is a challenging, but rewarding course in Germany playing host to the BMW International Open this week. The course has hosted the event previously, most recently as 2016 & 2014, so I will be listing those finishing places in the course history this week. The most challenging holes come towards the end of both the outward and inward nine, which should provide plenty of sweats for those playing this week. All of the driving zones are visible from the tee, giving players a clear view of where they need to hit it and the hilly green landscape requires a short game that will take precision. The weather as of writing looks to be hot and dry which should lead to low scoring among the best the European Tour has to offer, especially the bombers. I wouldn’t worry about stacking tee times quite yet. Ben Coley tweeted out something worth noting earlier this morning and I’d like to pass it along as I think it gives us a bit of comfort for players coming across following the conclusion of the US Open. “Sixteen players have played in this since it moved to the post major slot, only four players have turned up in Germany having finished inside the top five of US Open. Two of them won, six of them finished in the Top 6”. This could bode well for Tommy Fleetwood this week.
