Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Austrian Open (Euro-Pro Pack Members)
OVERVIEW
The European Tour kicks off its own version of a restart this week and at a tournament which didn’t hold an event in 2019, the Austrian Open. This event was the first to use a shot clock on every shot in 2018, players who failed to play within the allotted time limits were penalized a one-shot penalty which was added to their score for that hole. I haven’t seen anything on this being the case this year, so I assume it’s just a regular event, but aside from being European Tour / Race to Dubai eligible, it will also have dual ranking with the Challenge Tour this year due to the scheduling conflicts presented due to COVID-19. This field is weaker than the usual European Tour event, so take that with a grain of salt when looking at this week’s suggestions. With the lack of information not only when it comes to the field, but also what they did during quarantine, it’s tough to suggest 15-20 players, especially when most of them are Challenge Tour players. The course is relatively flat and includes water hazards on 13 holes. It’s only line of defense against low scores will be the wind. Diamond CC features two Par 5’s back-to-back on the inward nine (back nine) and both of them play at or very near 600 yards. The two on the front nine are much more palatable in distance measuring under 510 yards & 560 yards, respectively. There are two Par 3’s measuring over 200 yards (which will play as the toughest of the holes on the course). One Par 3 measures just under 160 yards, which should be the easiest of the four. There are two short Par 4’s (#3 – 376 yards, and #13 – 370 yards) but most of the yardage comes from the other Par 4’s measuring over 450 yards as there are five of them on the course. With the shutdown due to COVID-19, you’ll only see course history listed below as many of these players haven’t teed it up professionally since February and current form seems like a moot point at this stage.
