OVERVIEW

Buckle up for the longest tournament of the year. I’ll skip my rant on the three day Pro-Am, but it is worth noting that the players involved in this tournament have to hate this event even if they say they love it. DJ will be playing with Father in Law (I think he and Paulina are married, they could be still dating because I’m sure she’s keeping her options open long term), so he may be the exception here especially since his game translates so well to success here. The courses have been playing close to the same difficulty over the years, but Monterey has played the easiest of the three so if you’re a tee time stacker, I’d look to either stack those teeing off MSC first or on Saturday (as they make their run to make the cut). The winds will be in discussions again this week, but for good reason as the winds affect two of the three courses. Pebble gets two rounds (1 pre-cut, 1 post), so most of the stats I’m looking at are for that course as that’s where the bread will be buttered. There isn’t any clear path to picking the winner this year. Here’s how previous winners finished the year prior to winning: Spieth – 21st, Vaughan Taylor – 10th, Snedeker – Missed Cut, Jimmy Walker – 3rd, Snedeker – Didn’t play the prior year, Phil Mickelson – 9th, and DA Points – didn’t play the prior year. If this is something you look for in your OAD or for betting outrights, I’d say previous year Top 10 is probably the best angle.
