OVERVIEW
Last week we had my favorite non-major and this week we get my least favorite (popular) event. We get another three-course rotation where everyone in the field plays three courses before the cut (which comes after Saturday’s round). Spyglass and Monterey Peninsula have historically been the easier of the two courses, but I think we need to start thinking ahead in order to be successful when approaching these multi-course events. Sure, it’s important to play well on the easier courses, but it’s equally as important to play well at Pebble, as well as getting off to a good start. We’ll hear all week how it’s important to pick players who get “the easier” draw, but I think there’s something to be said for taking good players who get a more difficult draw as they should come in lower owned and still provide a high expected value. Of course, we don’t have any of that information right now, but it’s something to consider once the tee times are released. The weather this week looks to be a bit colder than usual. That’s going to play into the finishing result of this event, so making sure we target players who play well in adverse conditions is something I plan on doing as well.
