OVERVIEW

Another California event, another event with split courses before the cut is made… Thankfully, this is the last of it for a while. The good news regarding the format is the PGA Tour has thrown out the Monterey Peninsula course for this year, meaning we only have to deal with one other course for 18 holes (Spyglass Hill). There will be one round at Pebble Beach, one round at Spyglass and then the cut will be made on Friday like a normal event. This is good news because it’s one less course to muddy the waters and it also means we’ll get more data on Pebble Beach in a non-major, which is always good to have. Like the Sony and American Express, this is another one of those tournaments that opens the door for many player types as you can’t just bomb the ball all over the property. While there’s some merit in targeting long shots in betting and DFS, I still think if you have certain players available who are in-form, it’s wise to choose them over a long shot in One & Done just because “longshots have won here in the past”. One & Done is about Top 3 or better and if your longshot doesn’t have a Top 3 ceiling, you’re hindering yourself in the long run when it comes to player selection. Of course, if your longshot is currently in form, then by all means, take a shot on him, but don’t just fire a longshot just because it fits your narrative.
