We’ve got a new course in the rotation this week as the PGA Tour heads to Trinity Forest Golf Club for the AT&T Byron Nelson. The course was designed by the team of Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw, and looks similar to the traditional links courses of the Queens English (Britain); rolling meadows with tall native grasses and dramatic bunkers & greens. The course even features the largest green complex in the US where like St Andrews, two greens were combined to make one giant green. The winds here will play a major role in scoring this week as we’re back in Texas, and after doing some reading & watching course videos, the players won’t be able to just bomb it around this course to score. The course features a drivable Par 4 (which will give the players the risk/reward they’re looking for this week as there are plenty of hazards that come into play off the tee). With the course being played in Texas, we’re back to the “Aussies in Texas” narrative this week and Geoff Ogilvy (Aussie) has offered some insight on the course this week, which leads me to believe Aussies should be at the top of our list this week. “Trinity Forest is going to make us use our brains a little bit. You have to work out where your best angles are. One side of the fairway is easy, the other side is going to be difficult. Your mistakes are magnified, but your good stuff is magnified as well. Sometimes here at Trinity, the pin isn’t necessarily the target. It will be severe with the wrong shot, but very friendly with the right shot.”
