Fantasy Golf Tournament Preview- Abu Dhabi (Pro Pack)
OVERVIEW
The European Tour gets a classy field this week as some of the bright young stars tee it up in Abu Dhabi this week. The key factor this week is the wind. If it doesn’t blow, scores will continue to creep near the -20 threshold. If it does, we could see more of the likes of -12 being the winning score. The course has been regularly lengthened over the years and tips out around 7,600 yards and while this plays to bombers skillsets, the shorter hitters haven’t had any difficulty making the weekend or even making a run at winning (Gary Stal over Rory, Ross Fisher coming up short in 2018). The course is a desert links style in that it’s flat and exposed, which explains why strong links players have played extremely well over the years (Lowry, Fleetwood, DJ, Fowler, Pieters and Rory are all strong links players). The greens are quick, which does put an emphasis on putting this week, but I think it brings the bad putters closer to the good ones, which makes me want to lean on ball strikers who can’t putt even more. I didn’t write up Robert MacIntyre this week because I think he’ll be chalky, but he is someone I’m going to keep an eye on. If he can do well in this field on this course, he might be someone we can look to bet down the road.
